Welcome to The Fabler

Let me introduce myself. My name is Bruno Steppuhn, and I am a tech entrepreneur in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I’d like to welcome and introduce to you a community that I have built for you. You the comic artists, and you the comic fans.

For those of you who like history lessons, I’ll let you in on a little secret (I’ll make it brief). About a year ago now I found myself working on a comic pilot project for a game that my company is currently developing. In doing some of my due diligence, just like in video games, I found many challenges as an indie to bring my stories to the masses. Midsummer 2008 I started mulling the idea of a youtube.com + threadless.com idea for comics as a way of potentially exposing any literary art that I or anyone could produce. Simply put, I love Comics.

I’ve read comics on and off since I was knee high. I found them a more entertaining way of discovering new adventures, characters and creativity. It was always the cover art that grabbed me. I was never really drawn towards the superheroes, though I did read a few, I always looked for unique stories. This is where you come in.

The Fabler represents an open voice and free forum to tell your stories through art and creativity. There are no quotas to meet, deadlines to hit, and no one telling you how to edit the introduction, the climax, or the conclusion. “All the worlds a stage…” literally, and everyone’s watching. So here’s an opportunity for you to get your work in front of as many eyes as humanly possible. See what your audience thinks!? Really hear their voice. Learn who your true fans are. This priceless knowledge isn’t soley guided by dollars, cents and quotas.

So why am I doing this? I’m not. We are. We as a community of artists, writers, and comic lovers all over the globe are building this site as I type this letter, and as your reading it. Together we are building a place where the art of storytelling can flourish. Where creativity has no limits, neither should this industry.

So should you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or problems with the site whatsoever. Please contact me at cm@thefabler.com.
