It’s been a big year for The Anthology Project.
Volume One of their comic book collection came out just over a year ago, and it was met with some of the highest praise I’ve seen for an anthology in a long while. In fact, it even earned them an Eisner nomination. Riding on this praise for Volume 1, Nick Thornborrow and co-editors Joy Ang and Sam Bradley set their sights on making a second Volume. While their first release was, at its core, a collaboration between a group of acquaintances and friends, Volume 2 would expand their circle of collaborators to include artists they follow and admire.

Making your own indie self-published comic books isn’t a cheap endeavor. Getting involved with a comic collective and participating in the creation of an anthology has long been a preferred alternative for indie creators looking to maximize their exposure while minimizing cost, but the fact is, it’s still certainly far from free. Luckily the rise of crowd-sourced fundraising seems to be providing comic creators with entirely new avenues to build enough capital to print a high quality anthology.
The Anthology Project is an effort to showcase the diverse talent pool belonging to a group of friends and collaborators across the country. They put out… yes, an Anthology!- collecting 15 extremely well illustrated stories from the book’s contributors (who mostly consist of graduates from Alberta College of Art and Design and Sheridan College). The Fabler Blog caught up with Nick Thornborrow, co-editor and one of the contributors, to talk about the project.

The three main venues this year was Another Dimension, Phoenix Comics, and Comic Kazi. Though we’d love to include all cities and venues, we’re just not as [...]

The Fabler Blog’s Kevin de Vlaming made a (budget) video of this year’s Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.
Appearing in the video: Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics, Fiona Staples of North 40, Vicious Ambitious, The Anthology Project, Jay Korim of the Sundry 7, and – of course – the team behind the Fabler. Also featuring cameos from Ryan Sohmer, Richard the Warlock, and Scarecrow.
